Destination guide

Corfu, in the Ionian Sea, is known as the Emerald Isle for its lush green hills and cypress trees. Its Old Town, influenced by centuries of Venetian rule, is an elegant maze of narrow alleys (kandounia) with arcaded Liston promenades and pastel mansions reminiscent of Italy. Cafes in Spianada Square buzz with activity, and two imposing fortresses guard the city’s harbor. Beyond Corfu Town, the island offers idyllic pebble beaches with turquoise waters, olive groves and lemon orchards, and traditional villages nestled in the hills. Luxurious resorts hide in coastal coves, while sailing yachts frequent Corfu’s marinas. Thanks to its mix of Greek and Italian heritage, Corfu exudes a unique Old World charm alongside resort sophistication – think historic palaces and cricket fields (a British legacy) one day, and beach clubs and gourmet tavernas the next.
